Position Description - Academic Dean – Global Campus Buenos Aires

Position Summary
Leads academic initiatives and monitors academic performance at CEA’s Global Campus in Buenos Aires, Argentina, ensuring adherence to CEA policies, assessing student learning and faculty performance, and encouraging academic innovation that strengthens overall corporate performance.
Location
Successful appointee will be expected to reside in Buenos Aires and operate out of the Global Campus Buenos Aires. Regular travel to other Global Campus and partner sites within Latin America is expected.
Specific Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of developing and monitoring Academic Programs at CEA’s Global Campus in Buenos Aires and at CEA partner institutions in Latin America in conjunction with the CEA Academic and Development Teams.
- Submit faculty credentials (resumes and terminal diplomas) to CEA’s Academic Team (Tempe) for forwarding to the University of Record.
- Liaise with CEA's key U.S. colleges and universities and the CEA Academic (including Custom Programs) and Development Teams regarding new curriculum requests and/or modification of current curricula.
- Review and maintain consistency of established CEA academic policies and practices at the Global Campus in Buenos Aires.
- Travel to other CEA program locations in Latin America and to the U.S. as necessary.
- Liaise with the CEA Academic, Development and Marketing Teams in the writing of academic materials that are web and print-based.
- Oversee the resolution of all important student academic issues.
- Represent CEA's academic programs throughout Argentina and Latin America at: 1) professional conferences, 2) recruiting events such as student fairs and U.S. university and business development site visits, and 3) as CEA's academic representative on University of Record site visits in Argentina.
- In conjunction with CEA’s Academic Team address academic deficiencies identified by School of Record and/or the Academic Advisory Board or appropriate CEA committee.
- Ensure the timely submission of course syllabi for School of Record review, and preparation of semesterly evaluation of the Global Campus Buenos Aires.
- Report to VP, Global Education (Tempe) on academic issues, and accept projects
and assignments as directed.
- When appropriate, some of these duties may be delegated to the Assistant Dean (when appointed) at Global Campus Buenos Aires.
Global Campus Centers
CEA Academic Infrastructure
- Help establish GlobalCampus policies related to academics, attendance, and student behavior in conjunction with CEA’s Academic and Admissions Team. Once established, enforce policies as appropriate.
- Assist the CEA Academic Team in the creation of a structure for the academic planning, quality assurance, and assessment that meets CEA's GlobalCampus vision and CEA/University of Record protocols.
- Apply Active Learning, Center(s) of Excellence and Global Competence Curriculum at Global Campus Buenos Aires as established by the VP, Global Education.
Curriculum
- Review, approve, and develop academic curriculum for Global Campus Buenos Aires, incorporating active learning and global competence and focusing on subjects that are relevant to emerging North American student interests.
- Request new syllabi, review new syllabi, and submit new syllabi to CEA Academic Team (Tempe) in accordance with CEA’s Academic Forecast Calendar and CEA/University of Record protocols.
- Establish GPA requirements for Global Campus programs in accordance with established CEA Global Campus academic standards.
- Regularly assess and maintain the quality of academic programs at CEA’s Global Campus Buenos Aires.
- Oversee Spanish language placement process including placement exams, review of exams and level assessment.
- Respond to requests for custom curriculum and related programs at the Global Campus Buenos Aires for U.S. university clients.
Course Materials
- Liaise with Campus Director and faculty to establish and prepare resource requirements for each course (i.e. required texts, course readers, audiovisual aids).
- Liaise with Campus Director and faculty to determine course-related field trips and supplemental materials, including fees.
- Identify, recommend, and implement classroom, library and technology requirements for CEA’s Global Campus Buenos Aires.
Course Management
- Oversee the student registration process, including the add/drop period, and monitor selections for capacity concerns, scheduling and faculty requirements.
- Establish and ensure the coordination of course schedules in collaboration with the Campus Director and faculty.
Faculty/Other Academic Staff
- Develop an action plan for the recruitment (including number, employment status, and timing) and retention of faculty at CEA’s Global Campus Buenos Aires.
- Identify, interview, and hire faculty according to an approved action plan and CEA/University of Record protocols.
- Train faculty in new teaching methods in line with CEA's active learning and global competence model, providing faculty development opportunities where appropriate.
- Assist the VP, Global Education in the creation of a faculty handbook that outlines CEA's established academic policies and practices.
- Assess faculty performance and quality of course construction in accordance with CEA's academic standards and CEA/University of Record protocols, including the review of faculty to initiate compensation and promotion recommendations.
- Supervise Assistant Dean and other academic staff (when appointed) at the Global Campus in Buenos Aires.
- Attend, or arrange for delegate to attend, regular faculty meetings at the Global Campus in Buenos Aires.
- Manage faculty grievance process.
Facility Management Review
- Liaise with Campus Director Buenos Aires regarding administrative facilities, classroom space and services for students regarding library access, internet access, media needs for faculty, use of other common space, etc.
International Partner Institutions
- Identify and implement partnerships with new academic institutions to complement CEA Global Campus Buenos Aires and to meet the curriculum needs of CEA's key U.S. universities and colleges.
- Promote Global Campus Buenos Aires at appropriate venues in Argentina, Latin America and in the U.S.
- Act as a liaison between CEA students and local academic institutions on academic matters.
Global Campus Start-Up Phase
- Monitor the renovation and set-up of Global Campus facilities.
- Participate in the recruiting process for additional Global Campus staff.
- As needed, serve as CEA’s primary liaison in Buenos Aires with local vendors in the final stages of Global Campus development.
Business Development
- Facilitate U.S. faculty and administrator visitors to the Global Campus Buenos Aires.
- Work collaboratively with CEA Regional Consultants to develop relationships with U.S. universities to drive enrollment to the Global Campus Buenos Aires.
- Encourage and develop custom programs in a timely manner.
- Work collaboratively with CEA’s Academic and Marketing Teams to develop targeted marketing campaigns to promote the Global Campus Buenos Aires.
Other
- Work with Campus Director Buenos Aires to create annual budgets.
- Travel to the United States at least twice annually to meet with other CEA academic staff and to promote CEA programs at U.S. college and university campuses.

- Demonstrates a record of continued scholarship or equivalent activity, including presentations at professional conferences.
- Maintains strong familiarity with the region of responsibility, including the academic community of that region.
- Shows continuous commitment to multicultural and global diversity.
- Constructively applies experience with study abroad program development and design.
Minimum Qualificaitions
- Earned PhD expected; Master’s degree may be acceptable in certain circumstances based on degree and experience.
- Authorized to work in Argentina.
- At least five years experience in higher education, with at least two years of significant administrative experience.
- Strong and demonstrated teaching experience working with U.S. students on a home campus or overseas university site.
- Experience dealing/working with U.S. universities.
- A record of continued scholarship or equivalent activity.
- Strong familiarity with the region of responsibility, including the academic community of that region, in particular in Buenos Aires.
- A commitment to multicultural and global diversity.
- Experience with study abroad program development and design.
- Evidence of strategic thinking and pro-active resolution of challenging situations.
- Fluent in English and Spanish.
