Position Description - Desktop Support Specialist

Department: Information Technology
Reports to: Director of IT Infrastructure

Position Summary

CEA students acquire a cross-cultural international educational learning experience while completing academically rigorous courses designed to create global leaders in the 21st century.

As a Desktop Support Specialist the incumbent will support all network services, servers, desktop, printers, faxes, copiers, terminal services, intranet, internet and operating system software for CEA Corporate HQ, and Global Campus locations. This position will provide timely and appropriate support services for all CEA GC employees’ technical issues and requests. Also, this position will help to implement strategies for software and equipment standards and to ensure all equipment has the latest security, patching and virus protection patches and strategies implemented. Manage backups for all data within the company including performing daily maintenance, migration, restorations and security of all data, including databases and SQL servers in home office. Provide strategic direction and support for remote offices. Manage vendor activities at remote offices and campuses.

Planning and Program Development

The Desktop Support Specialist will support the Director/Department in the following areas:

  • Responsible for hardware acquisition, deployment, inventory, maintenance/monitoring.
  • Responsible for prioritizing and implementing project-based, strategic deliverables regarding networking, hardware and software. Supervising others and/or coordinating with outside vendors whose work are involved with accomplishing these deliverables.
  • Complete production and user support in a timely manner.
  • Complete projects upgrade and enhancement projects by scheduled due dates.
  • A strong work ethic and desire to solve problems and improve systems and procedures, thereby improving the efficiency of company employees.
  • Assure all IT initiatives are in alignment with business goals as directed.
  • Adhere to corporate policies as it relates to networked systems and devices.
  • Demonstrate appropriate planning as it relates to capacity, upgrades and security.
  • Work closely with internal business units and external vendors to assure timely results for any network related project.

Customer Service (internal and external)

  • Demonstrate a commitment to customer service by supporting staff to achieve target student evaluation scores

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Information Technology, related degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience level: 3-5 years in networking (college degree preferred)
  • 2 years minimum hands-on experience working with Microsoft O/S, including Windows XP, Server 2003 and in-depth knowledge of client/server operating system concepts
  • 2 years minimum hands-on experience working in a complex networking environment, working with switches, firewalls, routers, and TCP/IP
  • Strong analytical problem solving skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks efficiently
  • 1 year experience working with SQL Server back-end, including backups and security
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing to all levels of the company including the Executive Team
  • Knowledge of Exchange and Active Directory
  • Knowledge of networking security and recovery systems, including firewall software, antivirus, and backup hardware/software
  • Working knowledge of Exchange 2007
  • Working knowledge of Great Plains and Sales Force Automation or SalesForce (CRM) (PREFERRED)
  • Microsoft Certifications (A+, MCSE) or Equivalent Experience
  • Prior study abroad or educations experience (PREFERRED)
