Planning Guide

Before You Begin

The staff at CEA Global Education is available to help make your study abroad program a smooth, successful and valuable experience for both your student and faculty. Use our Planning Worksheet to help you get started. Here are some useful things to consider in planning an optimal custom program:

  • Destination
  • Desired term and year the program will operate
  • Estimated program dates and length of program
  • Expected enrollment
  • Academic content
  • Academic support – guest speakers or site visits related to coursework
  • Excursions
  • Cultural activities
  • Housing type for students and, if needed, faculty
  • Other inclusions/services
  • Target price of the program

Suggested Timeline

We strongly urge faculty to begin planning one year in advance of their desired program start date. Below is a suggested timeline to help you with internal academic planning deadlines.

Step 1 (Ideally 1 year prior to proposed program start date): Contact your Regional Consultant or University Advisor to discuss program ideas and objectives and begin developing a program proposal.

Step 2 (8 to 10 months before program start): Finalize your CEA Program Agreement outlining all the terms of the program.

Step 3 (6 to 8 months before program start): Begin active marketing of your customized program. CEA is available to assist or collaborate on the following:

  • flyers
  • posters
  • e-mail campaigns
  • information tables
  • classroom presentations
  • customized website landing pages

Step 4 (3 to 6 months before program start): Begin student enrollment and finalize academic and logistic details. Begin pre-departure advising.

Step 5 (1 to 2 months after program completion): Participate in active program assessment and review student responses.
