Private Aid is funded by a private source that is neither government nor institutional and is usually in the form of an alternative loan, but can also come from an outside scholarship. This aid is most often awarded directly to you or your parents. Private Aid may or may not be available for study abroad, depending on the restrictions of the funding company. Lenders provide different types of private loans, depending on your level of study and credit bureau history.
Regardless of which source of private aid you seek, there are a few important things to know:
- Are you going to be enrolled at your home institution while you are abroad or will you be required to take a leave of absence?
- Have your CEA credits been approved by your home institution?
- Does your home institution sign consortium agreements with third party non-Title IV organizations like CEA?
- Does your institutional aid, such as academic scholarships, transfer to study abroad programs?
