Academic Focus

The Intensive Spanish Language Program at the University of Belgrano is designed for students of all language levels who are dedicated to acquiring and improving their language skills. Your language course will focus on oral comprehension and expression, listening comprehension and grammar components appropriate to your language level. Your language courses, combined with your immersion experience in Buenos Aires, will help you improve your Spanish, as well as explore the Argentine culture.

Fall students will enroll in 14 consecutive weeks of class and complete 210 contact hours of course work, which is generally worth 14 credits in the US semester system. Spring students will first complete a 4-week course which meets for a total of 100 contact hours, which is generally worth 6 credits in the US semester system. Spring students will then enroll in a consecutive 8-week course that meets for 120 contact hours and is generally worth 8 credits in the US semester system. At the end of the spring semester you will have completed a total of 220 contact hours, or 14 US semester credits.

Schedule Summary

Fall language courses meet for three hours per day, Monday through Friday. Spring students will meet five hours per day, Monday through Friday for the first four weeks of their program. Students will then meet for 3 hours a day, Monday through Friday for the consecutive 8-week course.

Course Registration

You will begin your session with a placement exam. You will then be placed in classes with other students of your own language level. The Intensive Spanish Language program offers language courses at four different language levels: beginner, intermediate, advanced and superior. Please note, spring students will have the opportunity to re-test at the end of their four-week course and may move into a higher level for the remainder of the semester. In order to ensure that you receive credit for the level that you place into, it is in your best interest to have courses at several levels approved by your academic advisor prior to departure.
