Buenos Aires Cultural Activities

Take advantage of the unique flavor Buenos Aires has to offer. CEA offers a variety of local cultural activities to match your interests. Whether you enjoy music concerts, clubs, sports, cooking classes, language exchanges or something entirely different, our resident staff can help you get involved in the local culture. Here are just some examples.

Tango Lessons

Why not learn how to dance the most famous dance of Argentina, the passionate tango? Every Tuesday students will enjoy Professor Viviana Fratichelli’s tango lessons; in fact, she will even equip students with the skills to return to the United States and teach others how to dance tango, too! A Tango show will take place at the unique Homero Manzi’s big saloon, where Homero Manzi composed the most famous tangos in a famous corner of Buenos Aires called San Juan & Boedo.

Tigre Delta

This popular riverside retreat, just north of Buenos Aires, is a wonderful getaway from the bustling city. Students will explore the Paseo Victoria, one of the city’s main streets, relax on a ferry ride of the river delta, and see the artisans at the “Puerto de Frutos” with their many crafts.

Conferences/Lectures/Performances

CEA students are encouraged to attend conferences and performances that are offered throughout the program. It is a great way to meet people and to practice Spanish. Information on these activities can be obtained from the Department of Culture.

Conversational Exchange Partners

Upon request, the International Exchange Office will attempt to assign students a Spanish language partner to practice Spanish in a real-life context. Most partners are regular University of Belgrano students who are studying English or other languages. Language partners also will help CEA students get acclimated to the city, giving them tips on how to get around and where to find interesting sights and activities as well as local popular spots. CEA recommends that students be proactive and seek these activities out to help meet new people and enhance their Spanish conversation skills.

Cultural Activities

The director will organize or help students participate in a wide array of cultural activities. Some examples include sightseeing tours downtown, movies, concerts, or visiting the museum. Some activities require an additional fee.

Social Activities

CEA encourages interaction between foreign and local students. Several social events, such as meetings, parties and concerts are organized for each program. Athletic facilities are also available for a minimal cost.

A Colon Theater Tour

Students will go to the famous Colon Theater one afternoon to experience a behind-the-scenes guided tour of this one-of-a-kind theater. It also houses an art institute, a ballet and orchestra. Students even can see the impressive “cúpula” with Raúl Soldi paintings.

Volunteer Opportunities

Students can volunteer a few hours per week to aid in social work activities such as serving at a community cafeteria, helping children with their homework, tutoring English students and participating in other charity work. This experience will provide students with new, potentially life-changing perspective on Argentine culture and life.
