Take advantage of the unique flavor Sydney has to offer. CEA offers a variety of
local immersion activities to match your interests. Whether you enjoy music
concerts, clubs, sports, cooking classes, language exchanges or something
entirely different, our resident staff can help you get involved in the local
culture. Here are just some examples.
Beach Day & BBQ
Sydney’s famous beaches are without a doubt one of the city’s biggest drawcards. There is a myriad of beaches to explore in Sydney, from the deserted beaches of Palm Beach in the north to the popular beaches of Manly and Bondi. Nothing is more Sydney than finding a piece of sand on a favourite stretch of coast, spending time in the water and then cooking up a barbeque lunch as the day drifts away. Depending on which beach students visit, they may have the chance to have a go at surfing, check out the surf lifesavers in action, play beach volleyball or enjoy a leisurely snorkel around the rocks.
Sailing on Sydney Harbour
On the weekend the harbour comes alive with yachts of all shapes and sizes-- it becomes a sporting arena for keen yachtsmen and a playground for the wealthy. Students choose their roles as you step on board the Spirit, a 76ft America’s Cup racing yacht. They can get their hands on the winches and help sail the yacht or simply lay back and enjoy the view as the yacht sails under the Harbour Bridge and around one of the most spectacular harbours in the world.
Sydney Opera House
Students can take the cultural experience to a new level by dressing up and stepping out for a night of high culture and entertainment at the iconic Sydney Opera House. Before the show students can enjoy drinks and watch the sunset under the Harbour Bridge at the Opera Bar, one of the best bars in Sydney. As the curtain rises, local or touring artists will treat students to a world-class performance either grand Concert Hall. A night to remember!
Macquarie University’s Club eX
Throughout the semester, Club eX, a university club run by Australian students that have previously studied abroad, will run events and activities designed especially for international students to gain an Aussie experience. Students can pick up a calendar of Club eX events at the Macquarie Abroad Orientation. From trips to Aussie Rules or Rugby games to nights out in the city and harbour cruises, getting involved with Club eX is the ticket to really immersing oneself in Australian university life.
Meet-a-Mate at Mac
Students can match up with Australian students for friendships and language exchange.
