Apartments
By living in an apartment, students are able to enjoy their independence and the convenience of residing near some of Brazil’s sandy beaches and beautiful waters. Additionally, they’ll enjoy an expedient commute to campus as well as the choice to live in the city. There are several options for apartments all around the city within walking distance of the university, as well as a bit further away around the Lagoa neighborhood near the beaches. In general, apartments feature one or two bedrooms equipped with full kitchen facilities, linens (no towels), cable TV, internet capability, common living areas, and laundry facilities or a laundry service. Apartment décor and age may vary. Some apartment communities include additional amenities like a swimming pool, sand volleyball court, barbeque area, etc. Students typically share the building with locals and other international residents. Public transportation is easily accessible, as well as nearby local shops and services. No meals are included with this housing option, but students will have their own kitchen for cooking or can visit nearby restaurants for inexpensive meals and local Brazilian cuisine. Students should budget additional funds for food and phone usage. Internet can be arranged at an additional cost and the on-site staff can provide assistance, if needed. In the case that a student wants to share a two-bedroom apartment with another student, both students must reserve housing together.
An Example of Apartments:
Residencial Andramar Lagoa: Just a few steps from Lagoa da Conceição, one of the most beautiful places on the island, Andramar Lagoa offers one and two bedroom apartments equipped with kitchen facilities, a laundry area and bathroom. The common area offers a swimming pool, sand court for soccer or volleyball and barbecue area. Many trails exist connecting the complex to the Joaquina beach, and public transportation is also easily accessible. The university is a 40-minute bus ride away.
Residencial Andramar Trindade:
Only four miles away from the university, this Residence offers one-bedroom apartments, each with a kitchen and bathroom. No laundry facilities or car parking options are available in this location. Students will have easy access to public transportation.

Homestays
Living with a Brazilian host family is an excellent way to learn about culture, the way of life and to practice Portuguese. Brazilians have a reputation for being warm and fun, making it easy for you to feel right at home. Our selected host families will welcome and treat you as a family member. Host families come in all shapes and sizes, ranging from a one-person family (a mother whose kids are no longer living at home) to a large family with four or more kids. Families also vary in their level of English-speaking capabilities. There are single and double rooms available in homestays. (A shared room would be with another family member of the same gender and approximate age.) Students will be provided breakfast and dinner six days a week, linens (no towels), access to the internet and laundry facilities. Housing proximity from the university will vary, though public transportation is easily accessible throughout the city.
This option is perfect for students who are looking to experience family life in Brazil, and who are willing to adapt to the structure and values of the family. Homestays allow each participant to continue practicing the language outside of class while learning about daily life in Brazil.

CEA highly recommends that students live in the housing provided. Requests for permission to arrange independent housing must be made no later than the application closure date and be received in writing. For academic year students, requests for permission to arrange independent living arrangements for the second semester must be made no later than the second semester's application closure date. Students whose requests are approved will receive a rebate for housing. CEA onsite directors will not provide assistance with independent housing and will not speak or act on behalf of any student who chooses to pursue such arrangements. Rebates are not granted for students who move out of their CEA housing or choose to pursue independent living arrangements after the program withdrawal date.
