Academic Focus
This program is designed for students at all levels of Spanish language proficiency who wish to focus their studies on Spanish language acquisition. Students will take two Spanish language courses focused on the development of all language skills. The program will also provide an introduction to Chilean culture, thus facilitating students’ adjustment to life in Chile. Courses meet for 45 hours each and students receive 3 credits per course for a total of 6 credits.
This program is offered in 4-week blocks. If you enroll in two consecutive blocks you will be tested at the end of each block and may move up to a higher level. This structure combined with your immersion experience in Viña del Mar provides you the opportunity to advance your language skills at an accelerated pace, as well as gain insight into the Chilean culture.
Schedule Summary
Classes will meet between 3 and 4 hours per day, Monday to Friday. Classes are scheduled in the mornings and the afternoons although Friday afternoons are usually free to allow for longer weekend excursions. Class times vary and final course schedules will be determined onsite.
Course Registration
Final course registration at the university will take place upon arrival in Viña del Mar. Before departing, students should submit their course preference forms that will be used in the registration process prior to their arrival in Viña del Mar. Students will automatically be enrolled in two Spanish language courses at their proficiency level, determined by a placement exam onsite. To aid in the registration process, it is in the student’s best interest to have courses at different levels approved by their academic advisor prior to departure. Any changes to course selections after registration has been finalized will be considered after the placement exam has taken place and must be coordinated through the onsite director in Viña del Mar.
