Shanghai Housing

Number of Pictures:  of

CEA offers the housing options listed below in Shanghai. Every attempt will be made to match each student's preferences with our housing options; however, housing preferences cannot be guaranteed as roommate and housing assignments are based upon availability, date of confirmation and other factors. We encourage you to apply early as it will assist us in organizing your housing arrangements.

Campus Residence Hall (Shanghai Normal University) - Standard

Shanghai Normal University (SHNU) has three on-campus residence halls used by both international and Chinese students. Students are typically placed in double rooms with CEA or other international students studying at SHNU. Meal plans are not available, but SHNU has several on-campus cafeterias and coffee shops where students can buy an inexpensive meal. Residence halls are located within easy access to shopping and restaurants in the adjacent residential neighborhood. Residence hall accommodations are very similar to hotel accommodations in that rooms are fully equipped with private bathrooms, a desk, TV, phone, refrigerator and air conditioning, and are cleaned daily. Internet access is provided in the dorms at no additional cost. Rooms are cleaned daily and bedding is washed every 7-10 days. Additionally, the residence halls have a public kitchen and laundry facilities that can be used with a pre-paid laundry card. Single rooms may be available for a supplemental fee, but cannot be guaranteed.

Campus Residence Hall (CEA Global Campus: Shanghai) - Standard

The CEA Global Campus Shanghai offers housing in one of several campus residence halls at our hosting institution, East China Normal University. Students are typically placed in double rooms with other CEA students. ECNU has several on-campus cafeterias and coffee shops where students can buy an inexpensive meal. Residence halls are located within easy access to shopping, restaurants and public transportation. Residence hall rooms are equipped with desks, phone, internet and air conditioning. Cleaning and linen service are provided weekly. Additionally, the residence halls have a public kitchen and laundry facilities.

Homestay (CEA Global Campus Shanghai)- Standard

CEA students may choose to live with a Chinese host family. This type of housing is ideal for students who want to fully immerse in the culture and are willing to adapt to the customs of the host family.  A typical Chinese home in Shanghai is a two or three bedroom apartment. Homestay availability is limited however, and therefore cannot be guaranteed. Students should notify CEA as far in advance as possible if the homestay option is their preference.

Living in a homestay affords students the chance to practice Chinese on a regular basis outside of the classroom and experience Chinese culture first-hand. Chinese style breakfast and dinner are included. Based on the availability of host families, preference will be given to those who apply early and with previous knowledge of Chinese language. All CEA families are welcoming and generous with their home, but students should remember that they are guests and will be expected to adapt to the traditions and rules of their host family.
