SPN 102 Basic Spanish II
Host Institution Title: SPN 102 Básico 2 gramática y conversación CEA Partner Institution: Veritas University Location: San Jose, Costa RicaPrimary Subject Area: Spanish Language & Literature Level(s): 100 Instruction in: Spanish Recommended Semester Credits: 5 Contact Hours: 80 Description This course is designed for students with a basic knowledge of the language. Complemented by everyday exposure to Costa Rican life, this course emphasizes written exercises, grammatical structures, as well as conversational fluency. Students will continue to increase their vocabulary by participating in various activities including discussions on political and social issues. Basic grammar rules that will taught include: present progressive, gustar/interesar, positive tu and usted commands, and question and exclamatory phrases. Students will be evaluated by participation, assignments, midterm and final exam. The conversation part of this course continues to emphasize conversational Spanish. Extensive use is made of structured oral exercises and projects such as interviewing native Costa Ricans. Corrective phonetics, vocabulary development and oral comprehension are refined.
