SPN 202 Intermediate Spanish II

The course is based on reading exercises as well as simple text discussions. Students will develop a much more complex vocabulary and will be introduced to the personal pronoun vos, impersonal "se", "perfect" tenses, conditional tense, subjunctive mood, and comparative structures. Cultural and social activities are widely used as study material. Upon completion of this class, students should be able to hold a simple conversation and understand most everything they read. Students will be evaluated by participation, assignments, midterm, written compositions and final exam. The conversation part of this course promotes facility in understanding, speaking and writing the language. Emphasis is placed on situational, everyday conversation by enriching the students' vocabulary and correction of phonetics. Structured speech is worked on to provide a firm foundation in spoken Spanish with progression towards free conversation. Students will have the opportunity to practice their Spanish through communicative exercises such as oral projects and interviews with native Costa Ricans. This course is taken in conjunction with Spanish 201.
