The Anglo-American University in Prague
Anglo-American University (Anglo-americká vysoká škola or AAVS), is the oldest private university in the Czech Republic founded in 1990. Accredited by the Czech Ministry of Education, it was the first institution in the Czech Republic to offer a full curriculum taught in English after the fall of communism. Anglo-American University provides accredited undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Business Administration, Politics & Society, Humanities, Society and Culture, Law and International Relations and Diplomacy.
Anglo-American University is located in the breathtaking 18th century Palace of the Knights of Malta, amidst the baroque architecture of Prague's historical Mala Strana quarter. The university is surrounded by the city’s main historical attractions and is just a few minutes walk from Old Town Square over the famous medieval Charles Bridge.
Small, interactive classes are taught in English an international faculty to a current student population of over 500 students. With a diverse student body made up of Czech and international students from 60 different countries and a unique small-university environment in the very heart of the city, AAVS offers an educational experience that is unique in Prague.
CEA students will have access to all the university facilities including a student ID, computer labs, library, and activities and sports organized by the AAVS Student Council. Since one third of students at AAVS are Czech nationals CEA students have ample opportunity to meet and interact with their Czech peers.
Classroom Information
- Czech and international faculty from Anglo-American Univeristy will teach your language courses and electives.
- Periodic exams, homework assignments and final exams will be administered.
- Attendance in all classes is mandatory and monitored by each professor.
- Class size ranges between 10 and 15 students for language courses and between 20 and 30 students for your electives.
- You will be in class with Czech and international students from the US, Europe and other parts of the world.
Grading Policy
All final course grades will be reported in the form of a "Letter Grade." The
following letter grades will be used:
A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D, F or P
Please note that this grading scale is recommended, but final credit and grade evaluation is ultimately determined by a student's home university. The verbal grade will be noted in English:
A: Excellent Performance
B: Above Average Performance
C: Average Performance
D: Below Average Performance
F: Fail
P: Pass
Letter Grades and Grade Point Averages
The "Letter Grades" match the US "Grade Point Average" (GPA)
system as follows:
A = 4.0
A- = 3.67
B+ = 3.33
B = 3.0
B- = 2.67
C+ = 2.33
C = 2.0
C- = 1.67
D+ = 1.33
D = 1.0
F = 0
