Academic Focus
This program is intended for students who wish to take a wide variety of electives while immersing themselves in the Czech culture. While at the Anglo-American University in Prague (AAVS) students take courses taught in English alongside Czechs, Americans and other Europeans. Choose your courses from a wide variety of subject areas such as Business & Management, History, Journalism, Politics and Sociology, Mathematics and Art History as well as Czech Language & Literature. By taking electives in English you can immerse yourself in the Czech culture and earn credits with no previous knowledge of the language. While not required, you are encouraged to take a Czech language course which will focus on listening, comprehension, conversation, and grammar. No matter which classes you choose, the intimate class size and caring staff at the Anglo-American University provide the perfect atmosphere for you to study, socialize and discover the Czech Republic.
Students will choose 4 or 5 electives from a wide variety of subject areas, earning 12 - 15 semester credits in the US system. Most courses meet for a total of 45 contact hours and are generally worth three credits in the US semester system. However, it is up to the discretion of your academic advisor how many credits will be awarded.
Schedule Summary
During the semester, courses meet for three hours per week, for 15 weeks. Class times can be offered during the morning, afternoon and evening time periods. Students are expected to spend 6 hours per week on background reading and assignments for each course.
Course Registration
As a CEA student, you will be enrolling as a full time AAVS student. You will be required to submit your course selections and alternates to the CEA headquarter office prior to departure for the Czech Republic. This will allow you to be pre-approved by the departments and/or lecturers for entry into your chosen courses. You will receive further information regarding registration deadlines after acceptance to the program. To aid in the registration process, it is in your best interest to have courses, including alternates, approved by your academic advisor prior to departure. Any changes to your course selection after registrations have been finalized must be coordinated through the onsite director. Please note that there are no required courses.
