Academic Focus

The Liberal Arts & Social Sciences Program offered during the J-Term is designed for students interested in earning credits toward their degree in a short-term program while immersing themselves in the Czech culture. Students choose to take one elective from a list of 3 courses specifically designed by Anglo-American University. Electives are offered in general subject areas such as History, Communication and Psychology. While a great deal of material is covered in a short amount of time, the program is extremely rewarding. Intimate class sizes and highly professional staff at Anglo-American University provide the perfect atmosphere for students to study and discover the Czech Republic.

This program is offered for one, 3-week session during the month of January. Students participating will enroll in one elective. All electives meet for a total of 45 contact hours and are generally worth 3 credits in the US semester system. However, it is up to the discretion of your academic advisor how much credit will be awarded.

Schedule Summary

During the 3-week J-term session, each course is held three to five times per week for four hour blocks. Classes are offered in three time blocks: morning, afternoon and evening. Students are expected to spend approximately 8 to 10 hours per week on assignments and background reading for each course. Exams will take place at the end of the J-term session.

Course Registration

As a CEA student, you will be enrolling as a full time Anglo-American University student. You will be required to submit your course selections and alternates to CEA prior to your arrival in the Czech Republic. This will allow you to be pre-approved by the departments and/or lecturers for entry into your chosen courses. You will receive further information regarding registration deadlines after acceptance to the program. Please note, there are no required courses. To aid in the registration process, it is in your best interest to have courses, including alternates, approved by your academic advisor prior to departure. Any changes to your course selection after registration has been finalized must be coordinated through the CEA Resident Director.
