Academic Focus

The Liberal Arts & Social Sciences Program in Prague is designed for students interested in taking electives in English while immersing themselves in the Czech culture. Students have full access to the summer course list offered by Anglo-American University and can take courses from a wide variety of subject areas within the liberal arts and social sciences. Students will sit alongside Czech and international students in the classroom, and given all courses are taught in English, students have the opportunity to become engaged in their studies without previous knowledge of the Czech language. Popular courses focus on Prague Art and Architecture, Central European History and East Central European Politics. The diversity in curriculum allows you the flexibility to choose courses that best meet your individual academic and personal needs. Intimate class sizes and highly professional staff at Anglo-American University provide the perfect atmosphere for students to study and discover the Czech Republic.

This program is offered during one, 6-week session over the summer. Students participating can choose to take one or two electives in subject areas such as Art History, Political Science and History. All electives meet for a total of 45 contact hours and are generally worth 3 credits in the US semester system. Students enrolled in the 1-course option will earn 3 credits whereas students in the 2-course option will earn 6 credits. However, it is up to the discretion of your academic advisor how much credit will be awarded.

Schedule Summary

During the 6-week summer session each course is held twice a week, for three and a half hours. Classes are offered in three time blocks: morning, afternoon and evening. Students are expected to spend approximately 6 hours per week on assignments and background reading for each course. Exams will take place at the end of summer session.

Course Registration

As a CEA student, you will be enrolling as a full time Anglo-American University student. You will be required to submit your course selections and alternates to CEA prior to your arrival in the Czech Republic. This will allow you to be pre-approved by the departments and/or lecturers for entry into your chosen courses. You will receive further information regarding registration deadlines after acceptance to the program. Please note, there are no required courses. To aid in the registration process, it is in your best interest to have courses, including alternates, approved by your academic advisor prior to departure. Any changes to your course selection after registration has been finalized must be coordinated through the CEA Resident Director.
