Academic Focus

The Full Curriculum Program is intended for students who wish to continue their studies in Prague within a university setting. Sitting alongside Czech and other international students, you can take a wide variety of electives taught in English from several different schools, including Business Administration, International Relations & Diplomacy, Humanities & Social Sciences, Journalism and Law. Over 80 different courses are available, all of which are taught in English. This allows students the opportunity to become engaged in their studies without previous knowledge of the Czech language. In addition, many of the courses taught at Anglo-American University incorporate learning that transcends the classroom and utilizes the host culture and city as an integral part of the course. For example, you can survey the cobblestoned streets of Old Town and explore Prague’s Castle first-hand in a Prague Art and Architecture class.

Students will choose 4 or 5 electives from a wide variety of subject areas, ranging from Business and International Relations to Journalism and Sociology. The diversity in curriculum allows you the flexibility to choose courses that best meet your individual academic and personal needs. Students must take at least one course that has a local, national, or regional focus—that is, a course about or connected to Prague, the Czech Republic, Central or Eastern Europe, or the European Union. Every semester there are more than a dozen such courses to choose from, including popular favorites like Prague Art & Architecture, Czech Language and Culture, Jewish Experience in Central Europe, Politics of the EU, and Postwar European Film. No matter which classes you choose, the intimate class size and highly professional staff at Anglo-American University provide the perfect atmosphere for students to study and truly discover the Czech Republic.

Most courses meet for a total of 42 contact hours and are generally worth 3 credits in the US semester system. Students typically earn 12 - 15 semester credits in the US system. However, it is up to the discretion of your academic advisor how many credits will be awarded.

Schedule Summary

Semester classes generally meet three hours per week, for 14 weeks. Language courses meet twice a week whereas elective courses meet once a week. Classes are offered in three time blocks: morning, afternoon and evening. Students are expected to spend approximately 6 hours per week on assignments and background reading for each course. Most courses have exams after 14 weeks of lectures but some classes have midterm exams as well.

Registration

As a CEA student, you will be enrolling as a full time Anglo-American University student. You will be required to submit your course selections and alternates to CEA prior to your arrival in the Czech Republic. This will allow you to be pre-approved by the departments and/or lecturers for entry into your chosen courses. You will receive further information regarding registration deadlines after acceptance to the program. To aid in the registration process, it is in your best interest to have courses, including alternates, approved by your academic advisor prior to departure. Any changes to your course selection after registration has been finalized must be coordinated through the CEA Resident Director.
