Academic Focus

London, renowned for the Arts, Sciences and International Business, makes the University of Westminster’s summer program the ideal setting in which to study. Through this program, students have the opportunity to take courses in several disciplines.

For Business students, the choices in classes range from marketing and human resource management to economics and corporate social responsibility. For students who are interested in Liberal Arts and the Media, they can choose classes in television, radio, film, photography, journalism, fashion, creative writing, literature, theatre, international relations, and art history. For science students, courses in psychology and complementary and alternative medicine are available.

You will be studying at either the University of Westminster’s state-of-the-art Harrow Campus, located approximately 40 minutes outside central London, or at Regent Campus, which is located in London’s “West End,” a district known for its shopping and entertainment. This campus is also just minutes away from famous landmarks such as Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. Whatever you choose to study, your academics will be complimented by your surroundings as you live and study as a true Londoner.

Summer students choose one course from the list of offered courses. Most courses offered are worth 15 University of Westminster credits and are equivalent to 4 credits within the US semester system. Please note, though, that the number of credits awarded is up to the discretion of your academic advisor.

Schedule Summary

Electives offered at the University of Westminster during the summer program generally meet for three hours in the morning Monday through Thursday for a total of 12 hours per week. In addition to in-class work, you will be expected to utilize London as an extension of your classroom in experiencing cultural immersion and developing global perspectives. Although the number of contact hours, in class assessments, and homework assignments may be fewer than you are used to, it would be a mistake to think that this means less work is required. In preparation for your classes, you are expected to read extensively, participate fully in discussions, and develop your own ideas and arguments.

Registration

You will be required to submit your course selection and alternate courses to CEA prior to departure for London. We strongly encourage you to take care in choosing your course as registration is considered final prior to your arrival. To ensure the registration process runs smoothly, it is in your best interest to have your chosen course, including alternates, approved by your academic advisor prior to departure.
