Academic Focus

Where better to study Shakespeare than in England, and where better to attend a Shakespeare course than at Middlesex University, which has one of the UK's most influential Performing Arts Departments. This program is specifically designed for students who have an interest in Shakespeare, with the focus on text, structure and how the dialogue translates to stage. It is an intense and interactive course comprised of a series of workshops that give students the opportunity to explore performance strategies for making Shakespeare come alive, to attend a performance at The Globe Theatre, and to analyze Shakespeare's works. Students will also spend an afternoon with one of the UK's foremost practitioners in the field of Shakespeare Production.

The summer school program is located on the Trent Park campus, a 60-acre country campus surrounded by 900 acres of woodland and meadows making it an ideal setting to study. The facilities on this campus house one of the largest university centres for dance and drama in the UK, with rehearsal studios and performance spaces, product design workshops and a fully equipped television studio.

The course is worth 15 Middlesex credits which are the equivalent to 4 U.S. semester credits.

Schedule Summary

The program is both classroom and workshop based and there will also be a master class given by a well known actor. The week–long program is intense, so students should be prepared for a demanding but fun and enjoyable week.

Course Registration

You will be registered in the Shakespeare course upon submission of the Course & Housing Application as a part of the pre-departure process. It is in your best interest to have this course approved by your academic advisor prior to departure.
