Here's what the England staff has to say about London

According to the 18th century writer, Samuel Johnson, "When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life itself, for there is in London all that life can afford." And today, London is still arguably the most exciting city in the world. CEA students on our London program will have the opportunity to see and experience first hand some of the things London is most famous for.

Whether living in London for a semester, an academic year or experiencing one of our fantastic Summer programs, CEA students have a choice of four universities (London Metropolitan, the University of Westminster, Middlesex University and Goldsmiths College, University of London) which offer a diverse range of courses from architecture, law, education, engineering, health, interior design, social sciences to name but a few.

London's history goes back to 43AD when what we know as the "City of London" was founded by the Romans and they later enclosed an area of just one square mile within a wall. Today, 2,000 years later, we are still trading within the same square mile, generating about one third of the country's wealth. For it is here that most of our financial transactions take place, every single financier, dealer, money maker, insurance broker will have an office within the city.

They say that we make our money in the City of London but we spend it in London's second city known as the City of Westminster, where you'll find the clubs, shops, pubs, entertainment and theatres. The City of Westminster is only about 1000 years old and is home to royalty and parliament. It is here that the queen lives at Buckingham Palace, our parliament is based and our Prime Minister resides.

CEA students will benefit from the CEA's unique London program being guided personally by our on-site Director around some of London's major attractions where they'll learn about the beheadings at the Tower of London, see the Crown Jewels and visit Westminster Abbey where our monarchs are crowned and 13 of our kings are buried, St Paul's Cathedral, the masterpiece of Sir Christopher Wren and burial site of our most famous naval and military heroes.

In London you can experience a trip to London's famous theatre land, a comedy club, or maybe even to a soccer match where you'll see one of our 13 football teams in action.

CEA students may wish to visit one of over 400 museums in London, from the more well known galleries such as The National Gallery , the British Museum to see some of its over 6 million artifacts from all over the world, or to one of London's newest museums such as the museum of docklands which tells the story of London of the 21st century, an area developed in the 1980's replacing the disused 18th century docks, where the financial institutions have today replaced an area once besieged by pirates.

The rest of London is really a series of little villages each with its own distinctive flavor and character which have joined up to form 33 administrative boroughs covering an area of 625 square miles, making it the largest city in Europe. There are about 7.2 million people living here in 3 million dwellings, it has a vast array of restaurants and outdoor markets. It is one of the most culturally diverse cities anywhere in the world as well as being one of the greenest capital cities.

Our social programs include weekend visits outside London, perhaps to the Roman City of Bath, to Stonehenge to see England?s oldest monument, or to Shakespeare's birth town, Stratford. We also arrange overnight trips around the UK and sometimes even to other European destinations such as Paris or Brugge.
