Academic Focus
The Intensive Language program, offered during June and July in summer is designed for students at the high beginner level and above who wish to acquire and improve their French language skills in a short, intensive period. Students will enroll in one French language course which focuses on oral expression, vocabulary development and listening comprehension. The program is 4-weeks in length and each language course meets for a total of 80 contact hours which is generally worth 5 credits in the US semester system.
As an integral part of the language program, twice during the month the school organizes a day academic outing to a local festival/event e.g. an outing to Avignon to see a play during the theatre festival, an outing to Arles to the photography festival etc. Students will then discuss these outings in class as part of their coursework.
If you enroll in consecutive summer sessions, you will be tested at the end of each session and may move up to a higher level at the beginning of your next program. This will allow you not only to advance more quickly to the next language level, but also to earn credit for multiple language levels within a short span of time. This program, in conjunction with the experience of living in Aix-en-Provence, is sure to increase your French language proficiency.
Schedule Summary
French language courses are held for 4 hours a day in the morning from 9:00 am to 13:00 pm, Monday through Friday and on 2 Wednesday afternoons. The academic outing takes place on Wednesdays, twice a month.
Course Registration
You will begin your session with a placement exam. You will then be placed in a language class with other students of your own language level. The Intensive Language program offers courses at three different language levels: high beginner, intermediate, and advanced. In order to ensure that you receive credit for the level that you place into, it is in your best interest to have courses at several levels approved by your academic advisor prior to departure.
