Academic Focus

The Intensive French Language program at the Centre International d’Antibes (CIA) offered during the summer is designed for students of all language levels who wish to focus their studies on the acquisition and/or improvement of their French language skills while increasing their knowledge of French culture and civilization.

All language courses focus on oral and written expression, vocabulary development and listening comprehension. In addition, students have a choice of 4 unique options to practice French in a specific field and get an insight into French Culture and Civilization through Business French, French Political Life, Art & Literature and French Culture & Civilization. Intermediate French or higher is required for these electives, which are offered in French.

Students will enroll in one language course, which meets for 60 hours and is generally worth 4 credits in the US semester system. CIA also offers optional electives for an additional fee. Each elective meets for 6 hours total (3 hours per week for 2 weeks). Students may enroll in these electives for enrichment or for credit. Given they are worth only .5 credits in the US semester system, students should speak with their academic advisor regarding transfer credit. It is up to the discretion of your academic advisor how much credit will be awarded.

This unique academic experience, in conjunction with living in Antibes-Juan-Les-Pins, is sure to increase students’ French language proficiency and help them gain priceless knowledge and insight into French life and culture.

Schedule Summary

Language classes meet 4 hours per day Monday through Friday. Electives meet 3 hours per week (45 minutes at a time). Language classes are held in the morning and electives in the early afternoon.

Course Registration

Students must register for courses prior to departure for the French Riviera. A course selection form will be posted to your MyCEA Account, which should be completed no later than the program closure date. You will begin your session with a language placement exam, and you will be placed in a language class with other students of your same level. In order to ensure that you receive credit for the level you place into, it is in your best interest to have courses, including alternates, approved by your academic advisor prior to submitting your course selection form.
