Academic Focus

The Business Studies program at the Grenoble Ecole de Management is designed for students interested in furthering their studies of business in an international setting. Students interested in the program must have completed at least 1 year and 30 US credits of university level study. All courses in the program are taught in English and students will take prescribed coursework focused on general company operations. Courses will be in a variety of business disciplines such as Accounting, Economics, Market Research, Intro to Negotiation and others. As part of the program, students will work alongside students from different nationalities and a wide range of academic backgrounds, thus gaining not only valuable business education, but also exposure to a unique cross-cultural experience.

Students in the Business Studies program will take five required business courses as well as a French language course. Business courses differ between Fall and Spring semesters, making academic year study an attractive option. Students who successfully complete the program will earn a Certificate (Semester program) or Diploma (Year program) in Business Studies.

Because foreign language skills are an asset in today’s business environment, all students will be required to enroll in a language course as part of the program. The majority of students will enroll in a French language course appropriate to their level, from beginner to advance. Students who are fluent speakers of French will instead choose another language, such as Spanish, German or Chinese. Language courses focus on oral expression, vocabulary development, phonetics and listening comprehension. Students will also participate in a series of language laboratory workshops to complement their time within the classroom. Courses generally meet for 36 contact hours, which is typically worth 3 credits in the US semester system (or 6 ECTS credits). Students who complete the program will be in class for a total of 198 contact hours which is generally worth 15 credits in the US semester system. Note, it is up to the discretion of your academic advisor how much credit will be awarded.

Schedule Summary

Business and language courses meet Monday through Friday and class times vary. A student’s individual schedule will not be finalized until registration takes place onsite.

Course Registration

Registration in business courses will be automatic upon selection of the program. Students will however be required to take a placement exam before arrival to confirm their language level. If the student’s level differs from what is indicated on their application, adjustments will be made to the student’s schedule to place them in the appropriate language class. In order to ensure that you receive credit for your courses, it is in your best interest to have courses at several levels approved by your academic advisor prior to departure.
