Academic Focus

The European Politics, Culture & Art program at the CEA GlobalCampus in Paris is intended for students of all language levels interested in studying current European trends and issues within an academic environment which encourages student participation and critical thinking. CEA GlobalCampus in Paris offers classes in the humanities and social sciences, and allows you the flexibility to choose courses that best meet your individual academic and personal needs. The majority of electives are taught in English so that you can continue your university studies regardless of your language level. Your studies in Paris will provide you with a solid foundation in European culture, art and politics, as well as broaden your view of the world.

All students will enroll in a French language course appropriate to their language level. Language courses focus on oral comprehension and expression, written comprehension and expression and vocabulary development. Students will be given ample opportunity in class to practice their conversational skills. This will not only enhance your language skills, but also set a foundation for interactions you have outside the classroom. Students will also enroll in 3 to 4 electives of their choice. Courses are available in subject areas such as History, Art History, Political Science, Communication, Gender Studies and French Literature. Select art courses may be available depending on the session. All courses are designed to help students gain a deeper understanding not only of the culture and politics of Europe, but also that of France within the larger European context. Students will select courses which best meet their academic needs.

All language courses and electives meet for a total of 45 contact hours and are generally worth 3 credits in the US semester system. If students enroll in 5 classes, they can earn up to 15 credits in the US semester system. However, it is up to the discretion of your academic advisor how much credit will be awarded.

Schedule Summary

Each class meets once or twice a week for a total of 3 to 4 hours per week. Academic courses will typically meet twice a week whereas art classes will typically meet once a week. Classes may be held in the afternoon or morning and will not be final until students arrive onsite.

Course Registration

You will register for courses, including alternates, prior to departure. During the pre-departure process, all students are required to complete a course selection form indicating their course preferences and alternates. Students are encouraged to submit their form as early as possible as popular courses fill up quickly. Based on the course selection form and course availability, a student’s course registration will be finalized. With regard to language classes, students will take a placement exam upon arrival to confirm their language level. If their level is different than indicated on their application, adjustments will be made to the student’s schedule to place them in the right language class. In order to ensure that you receive credit for your courses, it is in your best interest to have courses at several levels approved by your academic advisor prior to departure.
