CEA GlobalCampus: Paris
The CEA GlobalCampus in Paris was founded in 2005 in order to provide North American students with a unique curriculum which not only focuses on current European issues, but also fosters dialogue and critical thought among students. Students are expected to actively participate in their classes and to draw connections between the subjects they are studying. Faculty selected to teach at the CEA GlobalCampus are interested in the intellectual, cultural and emotional growth of the students and strive to engage them in lively discussions.
The courses offered at the CEA GlobalCampus in Paris are designed to teach students about the diverse history, politics, culture and art of Europe. Courses in a variety of disciplines are offered such as history, art history, political science and literature. While several classes focus primarily on France, these are designed to provide students with a deeper understanding of French history, language and culture. This will help them not only get to know their new surroundings in Paris, but also gain insight into how France fits into the larger European context. By engaging students in dialogue and critical thought, the CEA GlobalCampus in Paris strives to provide students with a compelling introduction to European politics, culture and art. In addition, by analyzing various aspects of Europe, students are encouraged to analyze and reflect on their own country and cultures as well.
Courses taught at the CEA GlobalCampus center in Paris* have been designed in conjunction with, and approved by, the University of New Haven (UNH). In addition, faculty appointments have been approved by UNH. After the successful completion of a session at the CEA GlobalCampus in Paris, students will receive credit for their work from UNH. Located in Connecticut, the University of New Haven is a student-focused, comprehensive university and is full accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). The agreement between CEA and UNH follows the highest standards of good practice in education abroad and satisfies the rigorous requirements of the University's institutional accreditor. *The GlobalCampus programs in Paris are also accredited by Northern Illinois University and students studying on a program offered between Spring 2006 and Summer 2008 will receive a transcript from Northern Illinois University. NIU is fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
The CEA GlobalCampus in Paris is located in the heart of the Bastille district. Services available to CEA students include computer lab and complimentary French language tutoring.
Classroom Information
- Classes are taught by faculty selected by CEA and approved by NIU.
- Faculty are bilingual (French/English) and represent a variety of different countries.
- Periodic exams, homework assignments and final exams will be administered.
- Attendance of classes is mandatory and monitored by each professor.
- Class size range between 5 and 15 students allowing more personalized attention.
- Classes are specifically offered to be taken with other CEA students of equivalent language levels and not with native French students.
Grading
Professors at the CEA GlobalCampus in Paris will carefully evaluate student's work and progress throughout their academic session. Written and oral exercises, homework assignments, attendance, classroom participation and performance on exams will be taken into account when calculating the final grade.

Completion of a course is defined as a receipt of a letter grade (A+ to F) as opposed to Withdrawal or Incomplete.
In order to determine a quality point ratio, each letter grade from a completed course is assigned a quality point value. The quality point value for each grade earned during a semester is multiplied by the number of semester hours assigned to that course. The sum of these points is the total number of quality points earned during the semester. It is divided by the number of semester hours completed to obtain the quality point ratio (QPR).
