Academic Focus

French Language Boot Camp is a 2-week early-start French-language program that will linguistically and culturally prime students for their forthcoming semester or year in France. This program is suitable for either “true beginners” or for students who have taken at least three semesters of university-level French. Students particularly well-suited for this early-start program are those who have little to no prior study abroad and/or travel experience and those who wish to get a head start on adapting to the French language, lifestyle and culture. Students who have had multiple semesters or even years of French language study will find this early-start program useful in preparing them for the realities of the immersion experience. Regardless of their level of French language, students on this program will complete the session feeling more comfortable about living, studying, and communicating in French. This program is open to students studying with CEA in Aix-en-Provence, Grenoble, the French Riviera, or Paris during the fall or spring semester.

Students participating in the French Language Boot Camp program will enroll in one French language course: Beginning French I or Intermediate French Conversation. Students completing one of these courses will be awarded three hours of university credit through CEA’s academic partner and university of record: the University of New Haven.

Students participating in this program will begin their session with airport reception and transfer to assigned housing in shared apartments followed by a group orientation. Over the course of the 2-week program, students will attend class Monday through Thursday for five hours per day and will engage in cultural immersion activities crafted to maximize their exposure to both the French language and to intercultural competence techniques. At the conclusion of the program, students staying in Paris will have the option to change housing if they desire. They will also be required to attend segments of the semester student orientation to meet their new peers and receive additional program information. Students studying in one of CEA’s three other French destinations will travel to their host city to begin their program.

****Please note: the French Language Boot Camp program has been given special, reduced pricing and is, therefore, not eligible for a multi-program discount.
