CEA offers the housing options listed below in Paris. Every attempt will be made to match each student's preferences with our housing options; however, housing preferences cannot be guaranteed as roommate and housing assignments are based upon availability, date of confirmation, and other factors. We encourage you to apply early as it will assist us in organizing your housing arrangements.

There are several things to think about when deciding which housing option is right for you. Do you want to live only around other students? Other students from your program? In an authentic Parisian environment? With a family? Are you willing to assume the responsibility of maintaining and cleaning your own living space? Do you want a meal plan, or do you prefer to have a kitchen en suite? Is independence a priority for you, or do you prefer to be in a more protected environment? Take some time to consider these and other questions before listing your preferences on your housing application. Below you will find a definition and general description of each of the housing options. It is essential to note that not all the details are described, and that you should discuss with CEA any questions or concerns that you would like to clarify before finalizing your preferences.
Shared Apartments (Shared Room) - Standard
Apartment living in Paris is a wonderful way to experience the city while maintaining your sense of independence. This housing choice is for students who are interested in taking advantage of and maintaining a larger living space and who want to experience the freedom and independence that comes with living in an apartment. However, with freedom comes responsibility. Students must shop and cook for themselves and deal with maintenance issues.
Ideally, you would choose this option if you have already lived in an apartment and are familiar with the responsibilities that come with living in an apartment, such as upkeep and cleaning. As Paris is a large, metropolitan area, students will be housed in various neighborhoods throughout the city. In the past, students have lived in several arrondissements (districts), such as the 11th, 12th, 13th ,14th, 15th and 18th . All students should expect to commute to their classes. Typically, students will live within 30 - 40 minutes by metro or bus from the CEA GlobalCampus: Paris, the Sorbonne and the Catholic University of Paris. Apartments may house from two up to six students, and students should expect to have a shared bedroom. While the majority of the apartments have double bedrooms, there are occasional singles or triples.
***Please Note: Students participating in the early start option must live in shared apartments. Prior to departure, students will select their semester housing preference from the standard options. After housing preferences have been submitted they may not be changed once on-site. Students who chose a shared apartment as their standard housing for the semester will either remain in the same apartment or move to a different apartment for the semester, depending on program dates, roommate preferences and availability.
Résidence Etudiante (Residence Hall - Doubles & Quads) - Standard
Résidence Etudiante (Residence Hall - Private Room) - Additional Fee
A Résidence Etudiante (Student Residence) is the French equivalent of a Residence Hall. While students will find some aspects of these buildings comparable to what they have experienced in their home schools, it is important for them to keep in mind that the Résidences Etudiantes follow local and traditional standards of student accommodations. The several different sites that CEA has partnered with all have different characteristics. Students could be placed in singles, doubles, triples, or quads. Depending on the building, students could be living with French, International or American students. In some Résidences Etudiantes, students could be sharing a room with other CEA students, and in others students could be paired with an international or local student. Some Résidences Etudiantes have cafeterias on site. In all cases, students also have access to equipped common kitchens where they can prepare and store food. The Résidences Etudiantes are located all over the city, with specific buildings in the 11th, 12th 14th and 15th arrondissements of Paris. A Résidence Etudiante is ideal for students who would like to live in a communal setting and have the chance to meet a variety of students from all over the world. CEA Résidences Etudiantes are typically 30-40 minutes from the CEA GlobalCampus in Paris, the Sorbonne and the Catholic University of Paris.
Foyers (French Style Residence Hall; not available for July and August programs) - Additional Fee
A Foyer is similar to a Résidence Etudiante, but differs in four ways. First, some foyers are co-ed while others are women-only. Secondly, students benefit from a half-board meal plan including breakfast and dinner during the weekdays. On the weekends, only hot drinks are served for breakfast and there is no evening service. For those who prefer to cook for themselves, students also have access to a fully equipped common kitchen where they can store and prepare food. The third difference is that most foyers maintain a curfew of approximately 12:30am on the weekdays and 1:30am on the weekends (times can vary depending on the foyer). Finally, the Foyer is a place where students have the opportunity to interact and live with French students. French students living in the Foyer are very academically oriented and they attend many different schools. For this reason, this housing option is ideal for students who are interested in immersing themselves in the French language and the typical life of a French student in Paris. Students will be placed in either single or double rooms according to availability. The additional fee associated with this housing option is the same for singles and doubles. Additionally, the foyer has a permanent in-house staff as well as a night guard who has a room on the ground floor. Students can refer to this guard for any concerns or emergency needs. Typically, you will be located within 30 - 40 minutes by metro or bus from the CEA Global Campus, the Sorbonne and the Catholic University of Paris. Students’ applications for the Foyer are considered carefully in order to select students whose motivation and personality matches the ethos of this housing option.
Homestays - Additional Fee
Staying in a homestay is a great way to complement your classroom study. This housing option is ideal for students who wish to immerse themselves in a cultural and linguistic experience. Living with a French family will give you insight as to how Parisians live their daily lives and provide the daily contact with French culture requisite to improving your French language skills. Homestays are located all across the city in safe residential neighborhoods, a 30-40 minute metro ride from the CEA Global Campus, the Sorbonne and the Catholic University of Paris. All bedrooms are single rooms, but there may be other international students in the home. A French-style breakfast is provided daily. At an additional cost, students may choose to have two other meals provided each week. Some homestays consist of a two-parent household, while some may be single or retired parents whose children have grown up and moved out. No matter what the configuration of the homestay, all enjoy having students live with them and sharing their culture. All families are welcoming and generous with their home, but participants should remember that they are guests and will be expected to adapt to the traditions and rules of their host family.
**Please note: The homestay option is not available for August 4-week summer programs.

Independent Living
CEA highly recommends that students live in the housing provided. Requests for permission to arrange independent housing must be made on the online housing or paper application form as determined by your program no later than the application closure date. For academic year students, requests for permission to arrange independent living arrangements for the second semester must be made no later than the second semester's application closure date. Students whose requests are approved will receive a rebate for housing. CEA resident directors will not provide assistance with independent housing and will not speak or act on behalf of any student who chooses to pursue such arrangements. Rebates are not granted for students who move out of their CEA housing or choose to pursue independent living arrangements after the application closure date.
