Here's what Gerry has to say about Budapest
It has been more than 15 years since Hungary made the transition from communism and the progress the country has made since the Cold War years is astounding! Today, Budapest is a dynamic destination offering an incredible array of activities, cultural events and historical treasures.
The more time you spend in Budapest, the more you will really feel at home here. In no time, you will navigate your way around the city by foot, bus, trolleybus and metro, asking questions at the post office and shopping at the local grocery store as you pick up the language day by day.
You will make friends very quickly, since both Hungarian and international students are studying at the International Studies Center of Corvinus University. Many students go for a soak together in one of the city's many spas after class. The world-famous Gellert Baths are located just over the bridge from Corvinus. For less than 10 dollars you can relax and unwind in Budapest's most famous baths, or if you feel more energetic, you can go jogging or rollerblading on Margit Island, which is only a short distance from the Old Town center of Pest where the university is located.
Budapest is an unspoiled travel destination, with many hidden places of interest scattered all over the city, from cafés and bars to quiet courtyards in beautiful old buildings. Budapest's famous coffeehouses are great places to meet with your new Hungarian and international friends. Most of the city's surviving coffeehouses have preserved their charm and elegance and they serve a good cup of coffee and a great variety of delicious cakes and pastries.
Budapest is an easy city to live in, with excellent public transportation, theaters, opera, concert halls, museums, art galleries, cinemas, thermal and medicinal baths, swimming pools and a large variety of restaurants bars, clubs, dance halls and discos. The favorable dollar/forint exchange rate means that your money will go a lot further than in other study abroad destinations.
At the weekends, most students take advantage of the excellent rail network to experience the culture of cities such as, Berlin, Bratislava, Kraków, Munich, Prague and Vienna. London, Madrid and Paris are only a short plane-ride away!
I would highly recommend the CEA program in Budapest to any student wishing to have a wonderful and unforgettable experience in the heart of Eastern Europe. Get to know Hungary and its people and don't be surprised if you feel at home here as well!
