Academic Focus
This program is specifically designed for international students and gives you the opportunity to study the Irish culture in a short, intensive period. You will take one course, focusing on the discovery of Ireland through literature, history and cultural events. In the past, students have received credit for this course in the course subjects listed above. The course consists of seminars and lectures and is accompanied by excursions which help to bring the classroom material alive and make "Ireland" the true classroom.
Your summer course is worth 10 UCC credits, which is usually divided into 5 credits from both the History and the Literature Departments. Typically, this program is worth 6 credits within the US semester system. However, it is up to the discretion of your academic advisor how many credits will be awarded.
Schedule Summary
You will be in class for about 22 hours per week, from mid morning to early afternoon. The program is worth approximately 90 contact hours, which will be comprised of cultural events, seminars, lectures and field trips. In addition to your in-class time, you will be expected to do a significant amount of reading and work outside of class.
