CEA Student Life: Cork Local Secrets

As an organization that sends thousands of students abroad each year, CEA has captured a list of local secrets - a collection of discoveries from our students, resident staff, as well as other locals - that make this city unique. We hope you will find the information helpful and, at the every least, an interesting read.

Cork Film Festival

The Cork Film Festival has been demonstrating and supporting film producers for nearly 50 years. This annual festival has a mix of genres including independent films, documentaries, shorts, and feature films. The festival stresses support of young producers demonstrating their talents, Irish films, and balancing the art aspect with the technology of film producing.

Midsummer Arts Festival

For those fond of visual and performing arts, the Midsummer Arts Festival can not be missed! This event encompasses drama, sculpture, literature, music, and dance. The festival is full of artistic entertainment that spills onto the streets and introduces the community and history of Cork through the interactive plays and concerts! This is definitely a great way to see a celebration of culture and arts.

City Celtic Flame Festival

Do you love Irish culture so much that you wish you could turn St. Patrick’s Day into a week long celebration? If so, be sure to attend the Cork City Celtic Flame Festival! This festival mixes pubs, concerts, and Irish culture to help express the true identity of the Irish.

Coal Quay Market

Saturday mornings are always lively and enchanting at the Coal Quay Market. Vendors selling everything from produce to clothes arrange themselves in the outdoor venue. If you start conversations with the locals selling their goods, you may be able to catch a story or two about the market’s evolving history since 1690, or its impact on the town.
