Academic Focus

The Contemporary Perspectives on Ireland program at the CEA Global Campus in Dublin features a curriculum of courses perfect for students who wish to explore history, cultural geography, literature, and politics in an academic environment that encourages student participation and critical thinking. The CEA Global Campus in Dublin allows you the flexibility to choose courses that best meet your individual academic and personal needs.

Students will engage with the material presented in class not just through reading and discussion but through real-life encounters in the community with specialists in various areas such as musicians, dancers, community workers, and politicians. They will also be involved in hands-on tasks such as making your own Google map of Dublin or compiling and presenting a photo-essay on iconic sites in Dublin. Studying places of critical historical importance and attending major plays will also be part of the learning experience.

Students will choose 2 concentration courses such as Popular Culture in Ireland, Contemporary Irish Literature or History of Ireland: People, Politics & Power. Students will also enroll in two to three additional courses from a variety of subject areas such as Business, Communication and Political Science. Students will select courses that best meet their academic needs.

All electives meet for a total of 45 contact hours and are generally worth 3 credits in the U.S. semester system. If students enroll in 5 classes, they can earn up to 15 credits in the U.S. semester system. However, it is up to the student’s home academic advisor to determine how much credit will be awarded.

Through formal and informal learning connected to the host city, people and culture; and by applying appropriate cognitive, affective, behavioral, ethical and intercultural tools; students will develop and articulate:

  • discipline-based knowledge in Irish history, art and culture;
  • analytic insight into the dynamics of the host culture given the wider global forces influencing the city’s cultural, socio-political and commercial life and;
  • language and intercultural communication skills.
