Whatever your interest the Dublin staff will be happy to assist you get more involved and deepen your experience of Irish culture. Here are just some examples:
Greyhound Racing
Engage in the electrifying thrill of one of Ireland’s most popular past-times for both locals and tourists alike – greyhound racing. After an action-packed day at the races with friends, “Going to the Dogs” takes on a whole new meaning! With greyhound tracks scattered throughout Dublin, nothing will make for a better evening out with your newfound international friends than grabbing some meaty Irish stew at the local pub, then heading off to the tracks for an evening of competitive rapture.
Paintball in the Dublin Mountains
Run! Dodge! Duck! Shoot! Paintballing in Dublin’s mountains gives students an opportunity to test their team skills and their tactical abilities – a fun form of warfare! CEA Staff and students, along with other international students, gather together to battle it out in the mother nature’s Irish stadium – the iconic, emerald mountains of Dublin, a stunning backdrop to the day’s activity.
International Food Evening
Whether they’re from North America, Europe, or any other continent, students are required to bring one thing only to the CEA Global Campus International Food Evening: their appetites. Students’ allow their taste buds to do the learning during this activity as they bring and share the local specialties and delicacies of their home countries with classmates.
Global Campus Sports
What do tennis, squash, badminton and soccer have in common? They all are available to CEA students at the Global Campus in Dublin! Each week students enjoy the opportunity to participate in the weekly sports events occurring on campus – no ability or experience required!
Irish Sports – Gaelic Football, Hurling
The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) is a country-wide organization that runs thousands of Gaelic sporting events throughout the year. Why not try your hand at Gaelic Football or Hurling by joining a local team? If you don’t want to participate you can still attend the matches which are held every week. You will discover just how deep each team’s pride goes whether it’s the local area, the county or province.
Gaelic Language
Irish (or Gaelic) used to be the first spoken language of Ireland, but today it is only spoken in rural areas of the west coast. However, it does remain the first official language of the country and is taught to all children in Irish schools. Why not take a class in beginner’s Irish either at CEA Dublin or through Conradh na Gaeilge (Gaelic League). It will bring out a whole other dimension to your understanding of Irish identity.
Theatre and Music
The Irish are known the world over for their literature, theatre and music. Opportunities abound in Dublin to experience some of the best in these areas. Why not attend a play in the famous Abbey Theatre? Or enjoy the raw emerging talent of new Irish musicians and groups in any of the many pubs and venues dotting the city.
Irish Ceili and Set Dancing
The phenomenon of Riverdance has brought Irish traditional dancing to a worldwide audience. You can experience the thrill and vibrancy of this type of dancing through the many Ceili’s and set dancing venues in Dublin. Students are taught the basic steps and, with the help of locals, participate in various forms of Irish dance.
Volunteer Opportunities
The Irish have always been very generous with their time and talents when it comes to volunteering. You can participate in this aspect of Irish life by sharing your time and abilities with those less fortunate. Students can help in local organizations that assist the homeless, travelers, immigrants and those with addictions.
