Academic Focus

This program is specifically designed for international students who wish to learn the Irish, or Gaelic, Language. The course at NUIG offers you a chance to study the language at beginners and intermediate level. The course is taught in the village of an Cheathru Rua in Connemara, the heart of Irish Gaelic speaking Ireland. Not only is this course the ideal environment for you to learn the Irish language, it also includes a number of field trips to other Irish speaking locations. This course also includes traditional Irish entertainment in the evenings.

The beginner course is suitable for students who have no previous knowledge of Irish. It provides a basic knowledge of spoken Irish and a general introduction to Irish linguistic culture. The intermediate course is aimed at students who have some knowledge of the spoken language. Its aim is to help participants express themselves at an improved level of grammar and vocabulary. Your summer course is worth 6 credits within the US semester system. However, it is up to the discretion of your academic advisor how many credits will be awarded.
