Here's what CEA friends have to say about Galway
The first thing that hits you as you wander down Galway’s winding streets is how colorful everything is. From the store-fronts to the be-spangled costumes of the street performers, it’s truly a visual feast. If you fancy something quieter there’s the lovely pier area down by the Spanish Arch, or you can stroll around the myriad of side streets filled with trinket shops or simply sit and relax in one if the laid-back cafes dotted around the city.
While Galway is a city, it feels more like big town. It’s easy to get around, the locals are amazingly open and friendly to visitors, and hard as you might try it’s tough to get lost! There are little reminders of the city’s medieval past where you least expect to find them, and a sense of history that gives the city an almost mythical quality. You almost expect a Viking Ship to pull into the docks! Indeed you might actually meet one if you venture to one of the fabulous stage productions which are produced year round.
Saturday mornings are perfect for picking up gourmet delights down on Church lane, while the evenings can be spent snuggled up around the fire of one of the city’s more traditional bars or enjoying a live gig at one of the city’s cosmopolitan bars. There’s always something happening in the city, with its extensive social calendar boasting everything from the Galway Races to the famous Arts Festival You can also enjoy the Galway Oyster festival where Oysters served with Guinness is the specialty!
As a CEA student in Galway, you will be able to take advantage of the youthful, diverse culture of the city, as well as benefiting from the excellent facilities on campus. The broad spectrum of clubs and societies, as well as the city’s buzzing social life mean you never be sort of fun and you’ll have ample opportunity to make many new friends along the way!
