Lady Gregory Autumn Gathering
Weekend of lectures, plays, cultural and social events to highlight Lady Gregory's contribution to the Irish Literary Revival. Isabella Gregory was translator of Irish legends and folklore, writer of comedies and fantasies, director for the Abbey Theatre, and lifelong champion of Ireland’s famous poet William Butler Yeats. Although her magnificent home is no longer standing, the area has been developed as a national park commemorating her connection with Yeats. Her contributions are celebrated on her former estate where highlights include lectures, discussions, plays, and a guided walk through Coole Park woods.
Culchie Festival
This festival started in 1989 in Clonbar Co. Galway, it is now seen as the male version of the 'Rose of Tralee' festival – Ireland’s biggest pageant. With everything from horse shoe throwing to 'Kulchie Karokee' it is assured that a great time is to had by all.
Galway Arts Festival
Galway annual Arts Festival features over 400 writers, artists, performers and musicians from Australia, Canada, England, France, Germany, Iceland, India, Israel, Mexico, Palestine, Peru, Romania, Scotland, Spain, The Netherlands, Ukraine, UK, USA, Wales and of course Ireland. Dance performances from some of the most exciting choreographers in the world today combine with theatre, spectacle, a widely expanded visual arts program and the spectacular Festival Parade, to add to the magic and diversity of the program which features some of the most extraordinarily ambitious and innovative projects to be seen in Ireland. Literary events at the festival include novelists and authors joined by leading cultural and political commentators from around the world in discussion, readings and debate. It brings the very best of musical talent to Galway with a host of world-renowned and emerging Irish artists join together with an exciting line-up of musicians from around the globe for a mouth watering music program. The visual arts program also includes a major exhibition of large scale paintings.
