Academic Focus

This program is designed for both studio art and non-studio art majors to further develop their artistic expression and skills. Home to both the Uffizi gallery and the Italian Renaissance, students studying in Florence at Santa Reparata will enroll in Italian language, an art history course, a studio arts course, and three additional electives. Students have the opportunity to delve into a variety of mediums including painting, photography, drawing, and printmaking. All studio art courses and electives are taught in English and combine classroom study with onsite lectures and excursions, extending beyond the physical boundaries of the classroom to encompass Florence as the true classroom. Whether you seek to hone your craft or explore and develop skills in multiple areas, SRISA and the city of Florence are the ideal setting for any budding artist.

You will choose six courses for a total of 17-21 credits in the US semester system. Studio art courses will meet for a total of 90 contact hours and are generally worth 3 credits. Non-studio art courses generally meet for a total of 45 contact hours and are worth three credits in the US semester system. All language courses meet for a total of 60 contact hours and are generally worth 4 credits, with the exception of conversational classes which meet for a total of 30 contact hours and are generally worth 2 credits in the US semester system. However, it is up to the student’s home academic advisor to determine how much credit will be awarded. Transcripts for this program are issued by Maryville University.
