Santa Reparata International School of Art
Santa Reparata International School of Art (SRISA) was established in 1970 as an independent, non-profit 501C3 studio art school. SRISA has two beautiful campuses located in the heart of Florence’s historical center. Their Studio Art Campus is located in Via San Gallo, a stone’s throw away from the beautiful Piazza San Marco. In addition, SRISA also has a Main Campus recently opened in May 2006, located in the elegant Palazzo Palla Strozzi, better known as "Palazzo Strozzino". Built in 1462 by Michelozzo, Palazzo di Palla Strozzi is considered one of the most interesting examples of Renaissance architecture. Palazzo Strozzino was renovated at the beginning of the 20th century by the architect Piacentini who transformed the back and the courtyard into the elegant art nouveau cinema-theatre Odeon, which was opened in 1922.
The light-filled Main Campus houses five classrooms, a library and study area containing computers and multimedia center for student research, a student lounge with TV and access to CNN and other news programs, a small cafeteria area for students to heat up food and have lunch, a computer lab with ten new G5 computers, and will soon have a media area for large scale printing. Air-port and Ethernet Internet access is available throughout the campus. The area houses two faculty office spaces, several administrative offices and a conference room, as well as a front desk. The space is fully air-conditioned and all lecture classrooms are equipped with a digital media center for projecting digitally from DVDs and Computers. In addition, the building has a door man that will help provide an added layer of security to the building and students.
The curricula and class schedules at Santa Reparata are based on the American university model; however, students and professors at the school come from many countries and cultural backgrounds. The school provides a framework for an intense learning experience through programs of study that are organized in concentrations of related courses. In addition, you will be exposed to the rich cultural heritage of Florence and the daily experience of Italian life that is essential in providing material for their understanding of the culture. The mixture of "hands-on" courses in studio art, and the intellectual and cultural background provided by academic study, provides you with an experience of Florence that is authentic and enriching. The facilities of the school are extensive and the faculty is made up of highly qualified professionals from all over the world.
As a CEA student at SRISA you will have access to extensive studio art facilities such as the limonaia, print presses and photography and darkroom facilities. Computer labs, internet access, a language lab and library are also available.
You will receive college credit for their work at Santa Reparata through University of South Florida., which is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), and provides accreditation for all coursework offered at Santa Reparata. Therefore, credits earned at Santa Reparata should be transferable to US-accredited institutions.
Classroom Information
- International faculty from Santa Reparata will teach your language and elective classes.
- Assessment is based on participation, exams and both individual and group projects.
- Periodic exams, homework assignments and final exams will also be administered.
- Attendance in all classes is mandatory and monitored by each professor.
- Teaching styles in Italy can be very different from those found in the US or Canada. Be prepared to adapt to the different classroom structures and coursework expectations for your school.
- Class size ranges between 15 and 20 students.
- You will be in class with fellow CEA students and other international students.
Grading
Professors at Santa Reparata International School of Art will carefully evaluate student's work and progress throughout their academic session. Written and oral exercises, homework assignments, attendance, classroom participation and performance on exams will be taken into account when calculating the final grade for non-studio courses. Students to fail to attend at least 70% of their classes will receive an F for the semester.

Studio Art Courses - Grades assigned in studio art courses are based on the following scale:
- 25% Effort - Attendance, class participation, work habits, work completed
- 25% Technical Skill - Mastery of the media, neatness, attention to detail
- 25% Creativity of ideas - Underlying thought and content of the work
- 25% Aesthetics - Quality of final projects
