Rome Cultural Activities

Take advantage of the unique and stimulating extracurricular opportunities that CEA has to offer within the city of Rome. Choose from a variety of local cultural activities to match your interests. Whether you enjoy music concerts, architecture, sports, cooking classes, language exchanges or something entirely different, our Rome staff can help you get involved in the local culture.

St Peter’s Dome

Join us as we climb the 330 stairs to the top of the Dome of St. Peter’s Basilica. Enjoy unsurpassed views of Rome from the highest structure in the historic centre. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes!

Ballet or Opera Night

You will spend a night at the theatre, immersed in the unique atmosphere of such classics as Tchaikovsky’s ballet “The Swan Lake” or “Nabucco” by the Italian composer G. Verdi.

Model UN

The Model United Nations is held every Spring. This opportunity allows you to be involved with other Italian and foreign students, working together in a dynamic, professional, competitive and highly educational context. The MUN opportunity consists of four days of training and four days of UN plenary session simulation. Experience the opportunity to understand the different approaches to international relations, while also building on subjects related to your own studies. This activity will maximize the value of your study abroad experience in Italy and give you that jump start needed for future educational and professional challenges.

New Transatlantic Relations Project

This intensive educational module provides students with the opportunity to study geopolitics within NATO operational frameworks. It focuses on globally relevant issues, selects highly motivated students, and offers the best student performers a chance to return to Rome for regular follow-ups.

MAXXI

This futuristic site, opened in May 2010, brings two firsts to Italy: its first national museum of contemporary art and its first national museum of architecture. Join us as we visit the 27,000 square meters of open space realized by the world-renowned British/Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid.

Regenerated Urban Centres of Rome: Centrale Montemartini

Rome as a modern metropolis has different centers beyond the historic center. We will walk through this regenerated area of the city, uncovering its dual character and, with it, the city’s dual identity: the ancient and the modern. This activity will help you understand the stratified character of Rome’s urban development, as you observe a dismissed power station turned into a cultural center that hosts some of Rome’s most impressive antiquities.

Volunteering Program

Become an active member of the Roman society and experience Rome from within. Participate in volunteer activities that range from cleaning your city to feeding the poor, and become an ambassador of your own culture.

Internships

Our cooperation with Internship Italia, a company devoted to scouting and internship placement, allows our most motivated students to take on project-based, supervised internships tailored to their educational needs and future career goals.

Cultural Roundtables

Our Cultural Roundtables are seminar-like informal talks with our Dean, devoted to the analysis of cultural encounters, the notions of social norms and expectations, and students’ reflections on their personal experiences while living in Rome and travelling across Europe.

Library Tour

The Biblioteca Nazionale (National Library) is one of the main libraries in Rome where you can have access to books in English and Italian, and use its quiet rooms to study. Join your CEA academic staff for an orientation tour that will get you acquainted with the library for future use during the semester.

Bike Ride down the Appian Way

Join us on a 3-hour bike ride down the Appian Way, one of the seven ancient roads that lead to Rome, completed in 312 BC. The Via Appia is lined with ancient Roman tombs, monuments, and still-functioning expanses of aqueduct. This outing promises Roman history, culture, physical activity and nature all in one memorable afternoon/morning.

Italian Cooking Class

The food and wine culture is very important in Italy. You will prepare a typical Italian meal under the instruction of a professional chef, and you will also get to eat it! Once you return home you will get to show off your Italian culinary skills to your friends and family.
