University of Guadalajara

The University of Guadalajara is one of the most important institutions of higher education in Mexico. It was founded in 1792 and named the "Royal and Literary University of Guadalajara" by the authorization of King Charles IV of Spain. In 1925, several existing institutions were integrated into one, and the present University of Guadalajara was established as the public university of the state of Jalisco. The university has six learning centers spread throughout the city of Guadalajara and five located outside the metropolitan zone, each specializing in a different area of study. As a whole, the university system caters to the needs of approximately 185,000 students and is the second largest university system in Mexico.

Centro de Estudios Para Extranjeros (CEPE)

You will attend the Centro de Estudios Para Extranjeros (CEPE) located in a peaceful neighborhood just off the Avenida Mexico, close to a number of public transport routes and very accessible to all students. CEPE, established in 1948, provides an opportunity to approximately 500 foreign students annually who wish to learn the Spanish language and aspects of Mexican culture. The professors at CEPE pride themselves in their capacity to train students who are willing to close the gap between cultures. A walk through the CEPE building reveals a rich diversity of students and faculty members. In the classrooms, language lab and auditorium, students from many different countries, races and beliefs come together to pursue a common objective: to learn Spanish and experience the Latin American culture. You will become not only part of the tradition of academic excellence at the University of Guadalajara, but also the warmth that characterizes Mexican culture.

As a CEA student, you will have access to a variety of university services, including a university ID, computer lab, language lab, tutoring services, library, and a student cafeteria.
