Guadalajara Housing

Number of Pictures:  of

CEA offers the housing options listed below in Guadalajara. Every attempt will be made to match each student's preferences with our housing options; however, housing preferences cannot be guaranteed as roommate and housing assignments are based upon availability, date of confirmation, and other factors. We encourage you to apply early as it will assist us in organizing your housing arrangements.

*If you wish to take advantage of the opportunity to stay in an upgraded housing option, an additional fee will apply starting Summer 2010 forward.

Homestay - Semester: Standard / Summer: Upgrade

Students will live in different neighborhoods throughout the city of Guadalajara such as Jardines de los Arcos and Santa Tere. Some housing options are located within a maximum of a twenty minute radius from school by bus; students are typically placed in homestays located close to their university. Students will receive three meals a day, though occasionally on Sundays students may be asked to prepare their own meals. All families are chosen based on their friendliness, hospitality, cooking, cleanliness, and location. This option is for students that would like to interact on a first-hand basis with Mexican families to learn about the customs, traditions, and daily life in Mexico. All CEA families are welcoming and generous with their home, but participants should remember that they are guests and will be expected to adapt to the traditions and rules of their host family.

Shared Apartments (Summer Only) - Standard

CEA students in Guadalajara can choose to live in a centrally located apartment. In the past, students have lived in the neighborhood of Colonia América; however, apartments may be located in various neighborhoods throughout the city. Public transportation to the university is easily accessible and students should expect to commute to CEPE everyday. The apartments are located within a 10-minute bus ride or 25-minute walk from CEPE, and a 40-minute bus ride from CUCSH and UP. Students are responsible for meals and phone usage, so additional funds should be allocated for these expenses. Living in an apartment may be a preferred option for students who are more independent (regardless of Spanish language ability).

Casa Internacional - Upgrade

This housing option includes both Mexican and international students. This residence hall is located within a 20 minute bus ride or 40 minute walk from CEPE, and 30 minute bus ride or 75 minute walk from CUCSH. It is centrally located, near by main bus routes, supermarkets, cinemas and coffee shops. Although there is not a meal plan included, you will have access to a fully-equipped kitchen where you will be designated a space in the refrigerator, freezer and cupboards. This option is ideal for very independent students who would like to experience grocery shopping, cooking on their own, or who have dietary concerns. This option is not available for students attending Panamerican University.

Independent Living

CEA highly recommends that students live in the housing provided. Requests for permission to arrange independent housing must be made on the online housing or paper application form as determined by your program no later than the application closure date. For academic year students, requests for permission to arrange independent living arrangements for the second semester must be made no later than the second semester's application closure date. Students whose requests are approved will receive a rebate for housing. CEA resident directors will not provide assistance with independent housing and will not speak or act on behalf of any student who chooses to pursue such arrangements. Rebates are not granted for students who move out of their CEA housing or choose to pursue independent living arrangements after the application closure date.
