CEA Student Life: Guadalajara Local Secrets

As an organization that sends thousands of students abroad each year, CEA has captured a list of local secrets - a collection of discoveries from our students, resident staff, as well as other locals - that make this city unique. We hope you will find the information helpful and, at the every least, an interesting read.

  • At Café Agora, you can talk on Mondays to some of Guadalajara's experts, they'll tell you about the history of our city and some other traditions!
  • If you like live music and enjoy art, go to the gallery Haus Der Kunst. On Tuesday nights they have a Bosa Nova performance by the group Pnemus B. S., and every Monday you can enjoy some Harlem Jazz live!
  • The University's radio station Radio Universidad has their Wednesdays' show, Solo Jazz, which broadcast live at local bars and wine houses, with live local and international jazz bands!
  • Just few hours away from the city, there is a small beach called Sayulita, where you can enjoy the sand, the sun and the locals, where you can spend a night sleeping in hamacs!
  • Every Sunday, there is an open antiquities market on Chapultepec Street that you should not miss!
  • Open air activities such as music, dance, theater, art and books sale can be find every Saturday evening at Paseo Chapultepec. This street remains closed for traffic from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. for locals to enjoy!
  • The Via Recreativa is also held every Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Vallarta Avenue is closed to traffic. Families and groups of friends can go there to have a nice walk, skate or ride their bicycles at one of the most famous and beautiful streets of our city.
  • Go to Casino Veracruz, there you can dance to the rhythm of salsa, merengue and danzón!
  • In downtown, find las nueve esquinas (the nine corners) and try the Birria, delicious traditional plate of Jalisco!
