Port Elizabeth Excursions

One of the benefits of studying abroad is the ability to venture outside your host city and explore the surrounding area. Excursions are offered for all semester, year, and summer programs. Semester students are typically offered two to three excursions and summer students are typically offered one to two excursions. You will receive a calendar of the specific CEA excursions offered for your program during orientation. To give you an idea of the possibilities, we have collected typical experiences from some of the day trips and weekend tours we may offer.

Tsitsikamma Falls Adventures
Tap into your adventurer spirit and spend an action-packed weekend full of excitement at Tsitsikamma Falls Adventure Park. You will have opportunities to go over beautiful waterfalls on a Zipline Tour, go bungee jumping from Bloukranz Bridge, battle your friends in a paint ball fight and kick up some serious dust on quad bikes. After all the excitement, will enjoy the quality time with your friends over an braai accompanied by a South African drumming session. Time and energy permitting, you may also stop at Monkeyland, the world's first free-roam multi-species primate sanctuary or the neighboring Bird of Eden park with a large collection of free-flight African birds and miniature monkeys.

Addo Elephant Park
Take advantage of this once in a life-time opportunity to observe South Africa’s amazing biodiversity and some of its Big Five inhabitants, elephants, rhinos, buffalos, lions and leopards. At Addo, dedicated to the preservation of the Eastern Cape Elephant and the Cape Buffalo, you will have the chance to see these and other park inhabitants roaming in their natural habitat by participating in a game drive led by knowledgeable guides in open-top land rovers or trucks or by going horseback riding or hiking on trails leading through the park. This excursion will definitely be worth writing a postcard home about!

Jeffrey's Bay
Spend a day in this picturesque town situated on the coast of the Eastern Cape. Bracketed by an amphitheatre of towering mountains and its world renowned surfing beaches, Jeffrey's Bay is a true surf town. Talented surfers skilled to ride their boards in the tubes of majestic waves or just ahead of the great white rollers speak to the fact that J Bay is among the ten best surfing points in the world. For those not interested in surfing, Jeffrey’s Bay offers the typical attractions of a beach town, a laid-back atmosphere, inviting restaurants and shops and, according to conchologists - also known as shell collectors - beaches which at over 400 types are unbeatable for the variety and number of seashells.

Frontier Tour
Take part in a unique trip to experience true Afrikaner farm life on a settlement of cattle farms located in the Adelaide area of South Africa’s Eastern Cape. On your trip to the farming town you will stop in Grahamstown where you will have a chance to visit the International Library of African Music and the African Musical Instrument Factory or simply just discover this beautiful city. During your stay at local farm houses, you will also go hiking and participate in a picnic and traditional South African braai, among other fun activities.
