CEA Student Life: Stellenbosch Immersion Activities

Take advantage of the unique flavor Stellenbosch has to offer. CEA offers a variety of local immersion activities to match your interests. Whether you enjoy music concerts, clubs, sports, cooking classes, language exchanges or something entirely different, our resident staff can help you get involved in the local culture.

ISOS Events

The International Student Organization of Stellenbosch University organizes excursions and various social activities aimed at introducing international students to South Africa, its people and its culture. Examples of activities include daytrips to Cape Town or Braais with South African students interested in cultural exchange. ISOS also runs an exciting community service project in the nearby township of Kayamandi and in area schools giving international students the opportunity to volunteer some of their time helping South African families.

Spier Wine Estate

A haven for wine lovers, Spier Wine Estate provides a perfect environment to taste world-class wines, enjoy a picnic lunch on the banks of the Eerste River and relax in the lush beauty and tranquil ambience of the estate.

Trip Down Memory Lane

Explore Stellenbosch’s history through visits to the Village Museum, the Sasol Art Museum and a stop for shopping at Oom Samie se Winkel, Stellenbosch’s first trading store that will take you back 100 years in time. Complete your trip down memory lane with a stroll along Dorp Street lined by curio shops and outside restaurants and cafés that beckon you to linger and observe South African life in Stellenbosch from the sidelines.

Township Tour

Townships are where a great number of South African's live. On the inside, they are vibrant exciting places despite the fact that there is a lot of poverty and unemployment and some terrible living conditions. Through a guided tour you will gain an understanding of the Apartheid system and its lasting effects, experience the lives of the Xhosa people who are the main inhabitants of the Stellenbosch and Cape Town townships.

Day on the Beach and Evening Braai

Spend a day on one of the many beaches within easy reach of Stellenbosch. Following a day of fun in the sun, spend time relaxing and taking in the South African way of life over a traditional Braai and South African music.
