Academic Focus

The Spanish Language & Business Studies Program at the SRI and University of Alicante is designed for students of all language levels who are interested in improving their Spanish language skills in an intensive format while also earning credits toward a business and economics major.

Students enrolled in the program take 3 successive 4-week Spanish language courses through the Sociedad de Relaciones Internacionales (SRI). You will be tested at the end of each course to allow you to move up to the next higher language level. Alongside your Spanish language classes and for a total of 12 weeks you will take one Business elective taught in English at the University of Alicante. Your language classes will focus on oral comprehension and expression, listening comprehension and grammar components appropriate to your language level while your Business elective will help you gain valuable skills for the global marketplace.

Spanish language courses meet for a total of 60 contact hours per 4-week course and are generally worth 4 US credits. Business elective courses meet for 40 hours and are generally worth 3 credits in the US semester system. All students will enroll in a total of 4 courses per semester.

Schedule Summary

Language classes meet Monday through Friday for three hours either in the morning or in the afternoon. Business courses meet twice a week, Monday through Thursday, for 2 hours per day.

Course Registration

Students must register for courses prior to departure for Alicante. A course selection form will be sent to you upon your acceptance to the program and should be turned in with your confirmation deposit or no later than the application closure date for your program. Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis so it is in your best interest to submit your course selection form as soon as possible. Classes may be cancelled due to low enrollment by the host university, so it is in your best interest to have additional courses approved.
