Academic Focus
The International Business Program is offered jointly by the CEA GlobalCampus in Barcelona and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). The program is intended for students of all language levels who are interested in taking business classes in English while being immersed in the Spanish culture. The curriculum has been specifically designed to help students gain insight into the world of international business. By participating in this unique program, you will enjoy the unique advantage of studying at two institutions in Barcelona.
As a semester student, you will enroll in one language course or one core elective as well as one additional elective of your choice at the CEA GlobalCampus in Barcelona. Language courses focus on oral comprehension and expression, listening comprehension and grammar components appropriate to the student's language level. Elective courses, such as Spanish Culture & Civilization and Spanish Cinema and Barcelona: Past and Present, introduce you to aspects of the local culture which will help you better understand your new surroundings.
You will also enroll in 2 to 3 business electives taught at the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona. Courses are available in general business subjects such as International Business and International Marketing as well as in specific subjects such as Economic Integration and Strategic Management of the Firm. Business electives are taught in English which allow students of all language levels to earn credits toward their major or graduation requirements.
Courses taken through the CEA GlobalCampus are designed to make use of Barcelona as the "classroom". Students will have the opportunity to visit local businesses, speak with local business professionals, and learn firsthand about Barcelona in the larger European business context. By studying business in Spain, you will gain valuable skills for the global marketplace.
All language courses and electives meet for a total of 45 contact hours and are generally worth 3 credits in the US semester system. If students enroll in 5 classes, they can earn up to 15 credits in the US semester system. However, it is up to the discretion of your academic advisor how much credit will be awarded.
Schedule Summary
Semester classes at the GlobalCampus meet one to three times per week for a total of 3 contact hours. Classes are typically held Monday through Thursday although study trips and other required fieldwork may occur on Fridays. Classes are offered at various times throughout the day. Class timetables will be released approximately three months before the program closure date, and your final course schedule will be posted to your MyCEA Account around two weeks before the program start date.
Course Registration
Students must register for courses prior to departure for Barcelona. A course preference form will be posted to your MyCEA Account when course timetables are released. This form should be completed upon submission of your confirmation deposit but no later than the program closure date. Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis so it is in your best interest to submit your course preference form as soon as possible.
Course preferences are considered final when submitted to CEA. You will take an online language placement exam prior to the program closure date and will receive a preliminary language level assignment. However, your final language level may be adjusted onsite. To aid in the registration process, it is in your best interest to have courses, including alternates, approved by your academic advisor prior to submitting your course preference form.
