Apartments - Standard
Apartments are located all around the city and students typically share the building with local residents of all ages, families, elderly people, etc. Students should expect an average commute time on public transport of 30-40 minutes. Apartments vary in size generally from two to three bedrooms and students usually share a bedroom with another CEA participant. Bedrooms have twin beds and basic storage furniture. All apartments have an equipped kitchen, bathroom and living/dining area. By living in an apartment, students are able to enjoy their independence and the convenience of city living. Apartments vary in size generally from two to three bedrooms and students usually share a bedroom with another CEA participant. Apartment décor and age also vary. Please note that apartments may be single sex or co-ed. Males and females could be placed in the same apartment but never in the same room. No meals are included with this housing option. Students should budget additional funds for food, phone usage and transportation to and from campus as this is not provided. Smoking is not permitted on the premises.
Residencia- Additional Fee
Fall and spring semester CEA students also have the opportunity to live in a residencia, student residence that houses approximately 200 students. This option is not available for the summer programs. Residents are typically a mixture of Spanish and other international students. Students will most often be placed in double rooms and less often in single rooms depending on availability. They will have access to a shared kitchen area. Each room will have a private bathroom. The dining and/or study area maybe private or communal. The residence offers laundry facilities. No meals are included. Students should budget additional funds for meals, phone, laundry expenses and transportation to and from campus as this is not provided. Smoke and alcohol are not permitted in the premises.
Homestay- Additional Fee (Available Fall 2012 forward)
Staying in a homestay is a great way to complement classroom study. This housing option is ideal for students who wish to immerse themselves in a cultural and linguistic experience. Living with a Spanish family will provide insight as to how Barcelonians live their daily lives and provide the daily contact with Spanish and Catalan cultures requisite to improving Spanish language skills. Homestays are located all across the city in safe residential neighborhoods, a 30-40 minute metro ride from the CEA Global Campus, and local universities. Students could be placed with roommates or as the only student in the home. In the homestays with roommates, students may be placed in a single or double room, sharing common areas with other international students. Breakfast and dinner are provided daily. Some homestays consist of a two-parent household, while some may be single or retired parents whose children have grown up and moved out. No matter what the configuration of the homestay, all enjoy having students live with them and sharing their culture. All families are welcoming and generous with their home but participants should remember that they are guests and will be expected to adapt to the traditions and rules of their host family. Please note, that availability of homestays is limited and will be accommodated on a first come-first serve basis. Students should apply as early as possible if this is their preferred option. If interested in the homestay option, students also should budget additional funds for their transportation to and from campus as this is not provided.

Independent Living
CEA highly recommends that students live in the housing provided. Requests for permission to arrange independent housing must be made on the online housing or paper application form as determined by your program no later than the application closure date. For academic year students, requests for permission to arrange independent living arrangements for the second semester must be made no later than the second semester's application closure date. Students whose requests are approved will receive a rebate for housing. CEA resident directors will not provide assistance with independent housing and will not speak or act on behalf of any student who chooses to pursue such arrangements. Rebates are not granted for students who move out of their CEA housing or choose to pursue independent living arrangements after the application closure date.
