Academic Focus
The Spanish Language & Culture program offered during the summer at Antonio de Nebrija University is designed for students of all language levels who are who are dedicated to acquiring and improving their language skills. By immersing yourself in an entirely Spanish learning environment, you will expand your language skills and increase your knowledge of Spanish culture. All courses will be taken at the university's Dehesa de la Villa campus, located a short distance from Moncloa, a popular university district in Madrid.
As a summer student you will enroll in two courses, both of which are taught in Spanish. Beginner and low intermediate students will enroll in two language courses whereas high intermediate and advanced students also have the option of taking a combination of language courses and/or electives. Language courses focus on different aspects of the Spanish language, including grammar, oral and written expression and reading comprehension. Electives are offered in subject areas such as Literature, Art History and Cultural Studies.
If you enroll in consecutive summer sessions, you will be tested at the end of each session and may move up to a higher level at the beginning of your next program. This allows students not only to earn credits for multiple language levels, but also to master a variety of Spanish language concepts in a short amount of time.
Language courses and electives meet for 45 contact hours each, and are generally worth 3 credits in the US semester system.
Schedule Summary
Classes meet in the morning, Monday through Friday. Class times for electives may vary, depending on outside class activities.
Course Registration
You will begin your session with a placement exam on both written and spoken competence. You will then be placed in classes with other students of your own language level in one of five language levels. Course content increases in difficulty with every level. In order to ensure that you receive credit for the level that you place into, it is in your best interest to have courses at several levels approved by your academic advisor prior to departure.
All students are required to complete an elective selection form prior to departure. This form must be returned to the CEA Tempe office with your confirmation deposit, or no later than the application closure date for your program. Any changes to your course selection after registrations have been finalized must be coordinated through Antonio de Nebrija University onsite.
