Academic Focus
The Liberal Arts and Social Sciences Program at the CEA Global Campus in Madrid is designed for students of all language levels who want to engage with the culture, history and society of Spain in a dynamic city. As the capital of Spain, Madrid is both a political and financial hub making it an ideal location in which to study government and business. Madrid also boasts a rich history in art, literature, and culture creating a distinct and versatile location to earn credits towards your major and/ or graduation requirements. Both in and out of the classroom, students are encouraged to explore Madrid, making it an extension of their coursework.
Choose your courses from a diverse liberal arts curriculum, offered in English and Spanish. You can widen your cultural horizons by taking such courses as “The Culture of Food & Wine”, “Architecture & Painting in Madrid”, or “Terrorism and Global Security”. Many other elective courses are offered in areas such as art history, business, international relations, photography, and political science. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to study Spanish language, focusing on grammar, composition and conversation. Semester students have the option to enroll in one Spanish language class and three to four electives or individualize their own program of study by selecting four to five electives from the Global Campus’ course offerings.
This program gives you the opportunity to discover the soul of Spain using the entire city of Madrid as your "campus." You will be fully immersed in Madrid society, enjoying direct interaction with people from all over the world, understanding the meaning of a cosmopolitan city and experiencing Madrid’s past and present through its monuments, streets and museums.
All language courses and electives meet for a total of 45 contact hours and are generally worth 3 credits in the US semester system. If students enroll in 5 classes, they can earn up to 15 credits in the US semester system. However, it is up to the discretion of your academic advisor how much credit will be awarded.
