As an organization that sends thousands of students abroad each year, CEA has captured a list of local secrets - a collection of discoveries from our students, resident staff, as well as other locals - that make this city unique. We hope you will find the information helpful and, at the every least, an interesting read.
'Carrefour Express'
'Carrefour Express' (supermarket) on Calle Toro is centrally located and has just about anything you need from canned goods, fresh fruit to notebooks and cd's. It also carries a lot of international foods/items that you can't find in other supermarkets in Salamanca.
Plaza Anaya
Plaza Anaya is right next to the Cathedrals and off Rúa Mayor. Being next to
such a monstrous monument and the 'ambiente universitario' (university
atmosphere) all around is quite special. The plaza is actually quite quiet and
tranquil if you sit in the shade under the trees and just watch the
'salmantino' life going on around you.
AutoRes
The easiest and most practical way to get to and from Madrid (all students have
to do this route at least once while they're here) is through AutoRes. Students
can go to the website,
http://www.auto-res.net/index.html?a, and click on English to get the
page in English. Then they can register themselves and can buy/reserve tickets
on line AND choose their seats. We always recommend that they do this because
often you can't get tickets last minute. They fill up fast even though they run
every hour. Students need to look for the EXPRESS bus to avoid frequent stops
in all little towns along the way. Travel time is 2 1/2 hrs. We suggest they
reserve a seat on the right hand side of the bus. Those are the individual
window seats (no one next to you). They get headphones, the paper (early
morning service), and a movie!
