Academic Focus

The Intermediate Spanish Language & Culture Program at the University of Seville is designed for students at the high intermediate level and above who wish to further their Spanish studies and are ready to take content courses taught in Spanish. You will choose four to five courses, combining Spanish language and Spanish-instructed electives in a variety of subject areas. All classes are offered through the university's Department of Philology and Department of Geography & History, located in the historic city center. While you will be in class with other North American students, you will share facilities with host national students, allowing you the opportunity to experience the Spanish university system first-hand.

Schedule Summary

All regular semester courses will meet for 4 hours each week. Classes will be held on Mondays/Wednesdays or Tuesday/Thursdays at various times throughout the day. All courses meet for a total of 45 contact hours each semester. Students generally receive 3 semester credits per course, for a total of 12 - 15 credits per semester.

Course Registration

Course registration at the university will take place upon arrival in Seville. Students must enroll in at least four courses each semester and may enroll in no more than five. Although there are no required courses, CEA recommends that students take at least one Spanish language course. To aid in the registration process, it is in your best interest to have courses, including alternates, approved by your academic advisor prior to departure. Any changes to your course selection after registrations have been finalized must be coordinated through the onsite director.

You will take an entrance exam approximately one week prior to the start of university classes. If you pass the exam with a grade of C or higher and have at least 5 semesters of college Spanish, you may have the option to take some of your courses at an advanced level. If you wish to take regular university classes with Spaniards, you must also pass the exam with a grade of C or higher.
